Marina Lazaridis

Chief Executive Officer,

Marina Lazaridis graduated from the University of Pretoria with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry (2012) and went on to complete an Honours degree in Pharmacology (2013). She began her career in the Clinical Research industry in 2014, starting as a Site Solutions Assistant, where she gained hands-on experience in research operations and site management. In 2015, she transitioned into the Software Development sector, joining nuvoteQ to focus on technology-driven solutions for clinical research.

Currently, Marina serves as the Chief Product Officer at nuvoteQ, where she oversees the strategic development, enhancement, and implementation of the company's research product suite. Her role involves ensuring that digital solutions align with industry needs, regulatory requirements, and emerging innovations in health technology.

In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Marina has recently taken on the position of Chief Executive Officer at the nuvoteQ Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding public health technologies. The foundation's mission is to ensure the long-term sustainability, accessibility, and impact of these critical solutions, particularly in underserved communities. With a strong background in both scientific research and technology, Marina is passionate about leveraging digital advancements to improve global healthcare and research efficiency.

Colin Pillai, PhD

Colin Pillai, PhD

Goonaseelan (Colin) Pillai is committed to driving programs that develop scientific capability in low and middle-income countries.

A clinical pharmacologist who trained in Durban, South Africa, Colin previously worked at the corporate headquarters of Novartis and Roche in Switzerland. He has a specialist interest in the application of non-linear mixed effects models to pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic data across a wide range of therapeutic areas.

In Pharma, he played leadership roles in bringing internal and external acceptance of applying mathematical models to decision making in drug development. His most recent Pharma role involved establishing programs that allowed sharing scientific expertise and infrastructure with researchers and institutions in LMIC.

Colin has held teaching, research and management positions at the Universities of Durban-Westville and Witwatersrand. He acquired his clinical and research experience in hospital and community pharmacy and as a consultant with the SA Medical Research Council's Tuberculosis Research program, where he ran a unit conducting Phase 1 clinical trials. Colin continues to maintain active academic links with numerous institutions in Africa including via formal Honorary Professorships and Board Member status. Since November 2017, he is a Senior Advisor on capacity development and training programs for global health to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Emile Malan

Emile Malan is an entrepreneur, doctor, pharma exec and digital advocate deeply motivated by personal conviction and his experience during the intense suffering caused by the HIV epidemic in the early 2000s and overburdened local and international healthcare systems he has come across over the years.

After clinical practice and subsequent roles at Pfizer and GSK, he co-founded Vicore Health in 2018 to address broader healthcare issues in Africa. Active in more than 15 sub-Saharan African markets, Vicore Health's vision is to strengthen healthcare systems and connect the global health product industry to Africa, by focusing on Regulatory, Quality Assurance and Medical Affairs services.
